The Catholic Charismatic Renewal has achieved another milestone with the convening of its forty- fourth (44) annual Conference. One of the main objectives of the Conference is to deepen our faith in Christ. It is also an opportunity to be empowered for service and in keeping with the Jubilee Year of Hope to be commissioned to transmit new hope to our fellow brothers and sisters at a time when many persons are in despair.
The Conference is scheduled to be held from June 13-15th , 2025 at the St. Alphonsus Parish Hall. The theme chosen is, “Obey my voice in everything that all will be well with you”. (Jeremiah 7:21-23). As is customary the Service Team met and prayerful sought guidance from the Lord in the selection of a Conference theme. In so doing the above scripture passage emerged from which the theme was developed. In deliberating on the scripture it was concluded that it resonates with the sojourn of the Israelites on their journey to the Promised Land. They provoked God to anger yet He faithfully journeyed with them despite them having apostatized. Jeremiah the Prophet stood in the gap and appealed to the Israelites for a change of their evil ways. However they would not listen and continued to be stubborn and disobedient. In many respects this is likely to apply to many of us. God continues to speak to us individually and collectively as a nation; however many have chosen not to listen and have isolated ourselves from God and like the Israelites entertained evil desires, works of the flesh which have led to sinful ways.
Here in Dominica there is evidence that we as a nation have let our guards down and have allowed darkness to combat the light of Christ who says “I am the Light of the World. However all is not lost. There is hope if only we obey God’s voice in everything, repent, put our trust in Him and continue this journey with determination as pilgrims of Hope. The Jubilee of Hope is taken into consideration in the selection of the Theme as true obedience to the Lord leads to reorientation of our lives in this journey of faith and steadfastness as pilgrims of hope. Guest Speakers are expected to apply the theme of the Jubilee Year during presentation of various talks.
The Conference Guest Speakers are Fr. Anthony Abraham from Trinidad and Tobago but incardinated in the Diocese of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands and Fr. Francis Nwachukwu of the Fatima Parish. Brother Rommel Lawrence, a Dominican based in Barbados is also expected to be our Guest. The Conference programme reflects many activities to include celebration of the Eucharist, general assembly talks based on the theme, healing and empowerment sessions and workshops one of which targets the youth. Emphasis in this Jubilee Year is placed on concrete actions related to needs of the poor, the oppressed and marginalized individuals suffering from economic hardship.
The Conference is the opportune time to live the Gospel by demonstrating our love, care and concern for the less fortunate. In that regard each participant is asked to bring along dry food items which will be used during a commissioning exercise as the Lord sends us out as pilgrims of hope. We anticipate a successful Conference which thereafter would be evidenced in the fruits being exhibited in the lives of all who attended. As in the past that the Conference aims to draw us closer to Christ. The Conference programme is set up in such a way to achieve that objective. The various presentations which are associated with the theme emphasize the need to reorient our lives towards greater obedience to God thereby becoming committed pilgrims of hope.
